No More Meeting Dissatisfaction:
Planning and Running Effective Meetings
Course objectives & who will benefit from this course:
The aim of this 2-week course is to support Managers in analysing what is wrong, or at least unsatisfying, with the meetings they are currently involved in, and to teach them how these could be made more engaging and effective.
Employees in general, and Managers in particular, spend a good deal of their time in meetings. Team meetings, Management meetings, meetings with partners, meetings with tenants, meetings with stakeholders, meetings with suppliers .... the list could go on forever. Very often the time spent in meetings is seen as a waste, as the dynamics are poor and the outcomes vague.
A drastic reaction to this meeting dissatisfaction is the desire to give them up for good! The slogan 'No more meetings, ever' is common. If we are honest, this is not an option, because meetings are actually critical.
As Patrick Lencioni writes in his book 'Death by Meeting': There is simply no substitute for a good meeting - a dynamic, passionate, and focused engagement - when it comes to extracting the collective wisdom of a team.
In this course, Managers will work with a subject expert, and with each other, on getting to the bottom of the problem with meetings. Why are they frustrating and ineffective and how could they be improved? The course will be delivered as a mix of reading, reflecting, discussing real case-studies and scenario planning for better meetings.
By the end of the course participants will be able to:
- Analyse dissatisfying meetings and identify the root-causes for lack of engagement and results
- Choose the right meeting format for various purposes
- Implement new-style meeting formats
- Refer to useful resources for further information and support
How much time will it take to participate?
Participants should allow an average of 4 hours per week for taking part in the course, spread over the whole week at a rate of about 45 minutes per day, and not in one block. A lot of the learning takes place through activities that build on each other, and through discussions and interaction with fellow participants and tutors. Continual involvement between Monday and Friday is therefore important.
What are the costs?
£180 per participant per course.
