The LearnHousing Approach
LearnHousing is different from what you may normally think of as e-learning ... read about our approach, what we want to achieve and how we do it .
The cornerstones of our approach:
LearnHousing's main principle is ‘Learning is a process - not an event’.
Therefore our main aim is to make sure that people who have been involved in a course or workshop:
- know more than they did before
- are able to apply new knowledge and skills ‘on the job’
- are connected to other people in similar positions with whom they can remain connected on a peer-to-peer level for continuous learning and support
To make sure this happens we:
- link the content of each course to the reality of work-life and practical tasks learners perform in their jobs
- help learners to define their ‘learning objectives’
- make sure there are tutors who can help learners to master the requirements of the course and enjoy the learning process
- understand the special challenges of distance-learning and e-learning within the workplace context
- accept that learners, being human, are more interested in some things and less interested in other things. Interest leads to involvement and motivation, and thus we aim to offer an element of choice and customisation for each learner. This approach also guarantees that the organisations can be confident that what a participant learns is relevant for their actual job as well as the needs of the organisation.
If you want to know more about our idea of quality online courses then visit this site called What should a good online course do? - it describes perfectly our philosophy too.
Facilitated & collaborative e-learning:
LearnHousing e-learning courses and workshops are not just content to download, with learners studying at their own pace. LearnHousing courses are collaborative and participative learning events, with ongoing support and advice by a qualified online tutor, and the involvement of subject specialists.
Courses are managed and held in a Virtual Learning Environment - a space where learners will find information, meet fellow learners, and where they can communicate and interact for the purpose of learning.
Other forms of delivering knowledge and expertise online:
In addition to delivering full-scale e-learning courses and workshops in our own Virtual Learning Centre , LearnHousing will also use other innovative methods to enable the sharing and exchange of knowledge and expertise, on a peer-to-peer level and involving experts:
- Learning networks with an online-community element
- Online masterclasses and Webinars with leading experts
- Webconferences
Who are LearnHousing courses and online events for?
In its initial stages LearnHousing will cater particularly for the affordable Housing sector, but its overall and long-term aim is to develop into a quality learning provider and learning environment where professionals from all parts of the Housing world, whether affordable or commercial, can learn effectively about all aspects of Housing. In the spirit of collaborative learning this will include learning from each other.
Which subjects will be covered?
LearnHousing is in the early stages of its development and the range of subjects is expected to grow as the project develops. In the initial stage we expect to concentrate on the two main areas of:
- Housing-related Subjects
- Management & Personal Development Skills
The e-learning and blended-learning format offers great opportunities for providing topical & up-to-date courses and workshops that quickly respond to the interests and needs of a constantly changing Housing sector, and we will be aiming to become a place of excellence for subjects not covered elsewhere.
Furthermore LearnHousing is aiming to develop a national, European and international dimension, which will enable the exchange of knowledge and collaborative learning beyond the UK.
