Chairing Effective Board & Committee Meetings
An innovative online Workshop & Coaching for Chairs, Vice-chairs and Board members chairing committees
Good governance and effective meetings
"Good governance is not about managing a 'smooth' board room process but is about meetings that are full of argument, disagreement, passion and dissent which are all signs of a healthy board!", From: 'Faith in Governance. Renewing the role of the Director', by Michael Willis and Michael Fass.
If that does not quite sound like your ideal way of chairing Board and committee meetings, then re-consider and participate in our workshop, and receive some 1:1 coaching support for feeling comfortable with the concept and practice of 'positive disagreement' for creating and maintaining candid Board relationships.
Who should take part?
Anybody who is involved in chairing Board or committee meetings in the Housing Sector.
When can I start?
We are running this workshop on a 'rolling intake' basis. This means you may join any time after we receive your booking.
How does it work and how long will it take?
The online part of the course is based on the 'content + support' model, which means we provide content via our Virtual Learning Centre PLUS tutor-support. You can work through the material at your own convenience, but you won't just interact with a computer! On average participants should allow about 4-5 hours of time overall to complete the online part of the workshop, which consists of reading, reflection and some small assignments in preparation for putting into practice what has been learned during the workshop.
During and after completing the online element, you will be supported by a coach, who will work with you individually to review your learning needs and who will advise you on how to gradually implement what you have learned. This will be a step-by-step process, with plenty of opportunity to reflect on your progress and fine-tune your skills.
Why is one-to-one support part of our offer?
This combined individual learning and coaching approach is particularly useful, as implementing new skills in chairing meetings is something that takes time, and where there will be inevitable challenges and teething problems.
Another reason why coaching support is useful is that every participant comes to the workshop with different skills and experiences, and everybody operates under different circumstances. We can teach you some general skills about meetings and how to chair them effectively, but to really put those methods into practice you need to tailor them to your specific needs. And this is where a coach can offer you very specific support, to reduce the risk that you never implement your new skills - often a result of attending one-off courses.
Our coach will work with you over a number of weeks or months - as long as it takes until you have tried out your new set of tools and methods. The aim is to make you confident in applying them and managing the implementation process successfully. The initial package includes a fixed number of 1:1 coaching hours, but you can top-up the number by buying additional coaching support provided to you via telephone or online/email.
What are the costs?
The cost for the workshop is £200 per person. This includes
2 hours of individual coaching support. Additional coaching hours can be purchased at a rate of £60 per hour..
