Issue 6 :: 24 May 2005 :: The LearnHousing Connection
Welcome to the May edition of The LearnHousing Connection

This month is exciting as we are piloting our first 3-week Social Housing Compass course - and our participants are not the only ones who are learning something new every day! This pilot course is important for us to establish the support needs of our e-learners, and to assess how easy or difficult it is to learn online from the workplace. It also shows how to pitch the content so that it appeals to a range of participants, from board members to employees. We will be running another pilot Social Housing Compass course from 20 June - 8 July 2005, but that is the last time it will be available at the special discount rate of £60. So if anybody in your organisation would like to join, please contact us as soon as possible.

To help us with developing our future programme of courses and e-learning products, please don't forget to complete out survey at: http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.asp?u=683601028538, so that the training products we will offer match your needs.

Many thanks, Monika Strell

Are you looking for tailor-made training?

LearnHousing not only delivers open-access courses, but also works with individual organisations to develop, create and deliver tailor-made internal e-learning solutions.

Here are just a few examples of how such learning solutions could look in practice within your organisation:

  • Bespoke Induction Training delivered via your intranet, the web, or CDroms - fully built around your needs and including your policies, good practice and internal resources.
  • Internal learning networks with an online/intranet dimension - especially relevant if you are operating nationally or across the region. Why not network your experts in Kent and Yorkshire, or Liverpool and Dorset?
  • Interactive Staff Handbooks
For further details contact us.
What's coming ...

As mentioned above, our 'Training Needs Assessment' survey is still open - and will remain so for a few more weeks. But we can share some preliminary findings:

At the top of your wishlist so far are courses on:
  • Housing Law
  • Housing Management
  • Tenant Involvement
  • Sustainable Housing
  • Supported Housing/Supporting People
  • Anti-Social Behaviour
  • Introduction to Social Housing
  • Equality & Diversity
In terms of format there seems to be a taste for shorter courses and workshops of up to a week, but also for learning networks, and longer courses running several weeks.

We are aiming to provide you with products and services in all those subject areas - so keep an eye on the website, and this newsletter, for regular updates about our course programme.
Do your Board members need connections?

We are planning to offer a Learning and skill development network JUST for board members. Following the involvement of some board members in our pilot Social Housing Compass course, we feel confident that the way forward is to create a network of board members, with the purpose of enabling them to learn from each other. It won't replace specialist training, but will provide an important and effective approach to continuing development and support.

If you have board members who may be interested in joining then please contact us.
