Issue 15 :: 23 March 2006 :: The LearnHousing Connection
Welcome to the March edition of The LearnHousing Connection!

After concentrating on the development of the Social Housing Compass course and various management courses in 2005, this year we will develop and launch several specific social housing courses, covering a range of topical issues.

We will be developing those courses with professional trainers who are already delivering their special knowledge and expertise via 'traditional' courses. Over the next few months you will be able to read more about the new courses - and meet our expert course developers & trainers in The LearnHousing Connection.

We are delighted to introduce you to Karen Trippier ... please read on to find out more.

MEET ONE OF OUR NEW EXPERT COURSE DEVELOPERS & TRAINERS
In this edition we are delighted to welcome Karen Trippier to our team of course developers.

Karen will mainly be involved in the design and delivery of e-learning and blended learning events covering the main areas of housing-related subjects particularly useful to front-line workers, at both foundation and advanced levels. As “appetisers” the first courses to be available through LearnHousing will be:
  • Housing Status & Security of Tenure
  • Homelessness: Law & Practice
  • Allocation of Social Housing
Karen's background includes a variety of roles within the Court Service, housing management, supported housing, rent recovery, homelessness, landlord & tenant, floating support, welfare rights, debt and money advice.

She is a qualified, skilled and experienced Trainer, who for the last ten years has been delivering training in the above areas, as well as “skills courses” (particularly communication, advice, negotiation, advocacy and representation skills).

The following two comments summarise Karen's training style:

There is no such thing as a stupid question” (Karen)

You brought the law to life!” (Participant)

The above-mentioned courses will be introduced in more detail in the next LearnHousing Connection and dedicated course webpages will soon be available.
