Issue 11 :: 20 October 2005 :: The LearnHousing Connection
Welcome back to the LearnHousing connection!

This edition is all about ways in which LearnHousing can support you and your organisation in successfully engaging with e-learning. Over the last 9 months I have spoken to many organisations in the Housing sector about innovate approaches to learning and training in the workplace, and about e-learning. There is often interest and enthusiasm, but at the same time some confusion and concern about the scope of e-learning, its pros and cons and how to make it work on the ground.

Let's get started on clearing up the confusion and getting Housing e-learning ready!

All that talk of
e-learning: is your head spinning?

If you are an HR or Training professional in your organisation then it is very likely that LearnHousing is not the only provider offering you e-learning solutions. Probably a range of e-learning vendors have already approached you to present their portfolio of generic courses.

We are neither worried nor jealous about this competition. LearnHousing deliberately concentrates on a select range of very specialised courses and happily leaves the rest of the market to others.

Nevertheless, we are concerned that you make the right decision when buying e-learning products or starting your own e-learning project in-house. A badly planned or managed start to e-learning in an organisation can severely damage the long-term prospects of e-learning. However,there are many ways to avoid such a bad start.

To see how we can help you start your e-learning journey on the right foot and to hear about our new 'Is your organisation ready for e-learning?' assessment (until the end of the year at a special introductory rate), please contact us for an informal chat on 0870 460 4282, email us or visit our website.
Does e-learning suit everyone? And does it suit you?

This is a frequent and valid question. But as there are different personalities and learning styles as well as a range of e-learning approaches and methods, there is unfortunately no simple answer!

E-learning that mainly relies on learners accessing information via the Web, or PC, and then learning on their own, heavily depends on self-motivation, self-organisation, curiosity and drive. Participants with those qualities will find e-learning easier and more fun.

LearnHousing's approach is based on a more hands-on supportive style, but as even that approach is largely structured around written information, and written exchange with tutors and fellow students, it best suits those with an interest in written communication.

At the beginning of each LearnHousing course participants take a short assessment quiz, to help us find out who is a ‘natural fit’ and who may find the e-learning approach more difficult.

As a special service and to help individuals to get a better idea of their 'personal elearning suitability' this assessment is now freely available on our website. Visit the assessment page to answer the 24 questions and receive an instant score that tells you if you are ready for e-learning.
